Background
Sogeri National School of Excellence is situated 50 km away from Port Moresby situated in the Sogeri Plateau which is northeast from the nation’s capital. The school is located at the foothills of the great Owen Stanley Range to the north and the small Astrolabe Range to the south.
Regarding the political boundaries, it is located in the Central Province, in the Kairuku Hiri electorate. The Local Level Government ward is situated in Sogeri Urban ward in the Hiri District.


History
The school has a rich history during the colonial era. From 1944 to 1947 the school was a Papuan Training School. Then in 1948 to 1957, the school then was Sogeri Education Centre. From 1958 to 1963 it wasthen called Sogeri Secondary School. The School was then called Sogeri Senior High School from 1970 to 1974. Tli_e milestone event took place during the country’s independence when in 1975 the school name was changed to Sogeri National High School with then government policy embarking on having few schools in the newly independent state to promote nationalism in this diversified country.

Status Change
In the year 2011, major infrastructure developments took place in the school and the government initiated further changes to have national high schools to be called school of excellence. Sogeri from 2011 onwards was now referred to as Sogeri National School of Excellence.
The introduction of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), education after 10 years has further strengthened the concept of school of excellence. The launching of the STEM policy was the catalyst to help maintain the significant shift in the name change. The Introduction of STEM has created an increase in the level of the school. From level 9. The school has gone up to level 10 and the base level from 4 up to level 5.
